We were engaged to script, design and animate an opening video for the biennial Caltex conference in South Africa. The brief was to tell great moments in South African history where strength and courage were displayed. We came up with the concept 'Mbube' (Zulu for lion), a spirit animal that lives within all of us. The story travelled through South African history: from Zulu warriors to Mandela to the 1995 Rugby World Cup, where we saw the empowering spirit of the lion moving leaders towards greatness. The video was voiced by South African freedom fighter, director and poet Gcina Mhlope.
Created over 3 months, this video was one part of bespoke content created for the conference. The final videos were projection mapped onto a 14 metre custom set designed by Gluepot for the event.
